Animals in Autumn: Little Hedgehogs

Every year we have some little hedgehog in the garden.

But this year, the hedgehog I found was not only small – it was absolutely mini and more than this, it’s an entire family! I feed them with cat food – our cats know the hedgehogs anyway – so if they aren’t fat enough at the end of October, I’ll know and it will be easier for me to catch them and make them pass the winter in a frost-free place with some food around.

Hedgehogs which are born late in the year are often in danger when winter arrives. If they don’t have enough weight, they can’t make it over the cold months. So when you find a small one it’s better to bring him to a vet to find out how much he weighs and to eventually feed or take him until spring.

Thought I’d share this cuteness!
